Alright, so I was just introduced to this film (Leon the Professional), on the weekend, by Silver-cobra and MiaVoot (don't know how to make their icons, sorry), and I think it must be one of my favourites now. This is Jean Reno, above, and he was so awesome in this I can't even begin to say, so just watch it if you haven't already. As I had thought about the ending (%&*$@!!) as I went to sleep, woke up, and thought about it again, I took the obvious course and did a painting of him. Took me a couple bad sitcom reruns to do. It makes me happy cos it was a great movie; ay painting suggestions greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
ohhhhhhhhhhhhh my god. OHHHHHHHHH MY YOU.
MICHAELA I LOVE THIS. I LOVE THIS TIMES A BILLION.
TIMES BEER.
TIMES ANOTHER BILLION.
TIMES ANOTHER.
AND YEAH.
This is fabulous.
You are soooo incredibly talented.
I love shadeing on his face, with the really hard contrast you know? It's great how it changes from light to dark so quickly.
I also really love this sorta loose painting style, with the quick, effortless-seeming brush strokes. Kinda like the impressionists
BUT the thing I love the most is the background. I know you're not all for abstraction, BUT YOU'RE SO FRIGGIN GOOD AT IT. OH LORD. I'M SO JEALOUS OF YOU. Everyone's all like, "Abstraction? Easy-peasy!" But to make it look GOOD is something else. AND YOU TO IT LIKE IT'S NOTHING. AHHHUGHUGH
I actually cannot offer any suggestions to this painting, because for me it's perfection. You mustmustmust do more portraits like this. PLEASE DDD:
Thank-you!!!!
Glad you like it! Your comments are all soo in-depth and wow, whereas I didn't try for most of that, it was mostly by accident hehe. I won't spoil the illusion though
The background - yeah, I don't mind it either. It IS sort of abstract, but I thought that I really needed something to balance out the face instead of just negative space, and to do that properly, it needed colour, and to do /that/ it couldn't be realistic. In the original photo there are all these grey buildings behind him, so I did a sort of take on that, with the sun setting on them. That also put some explanation behind why there are buildings in his glasses (which he totally pulls off).
Thanks again though! And it's acrylic - I don't yet have enough patience for oils. XD
